Island Hopper Vacations commenced business in May of 1990 in the premises now occupied by the Dive Shop with two staff, taking over what was Discount Travel and the initial staff were, Robert Skews, the current Managing Director and Kathie Robertson.
The company was formed in 1990 after discussions between Robert Skews and the then shareholders of Air Rarotonga who decided that an Inbound Operation would be started as a separate entity.
The name Island Hopper was taken from Air Rarotonga who had used that brand for some time to sell their Outer Island Product.
When we commenced operations in 1990, there were two agencies selling the Cooks then, but as mainly Transfer Operators – Hugh Henry and Associates and Tipani Tours Ltd.
We had decided to commence business and offer a new level of service and support that was not being provided – a level of service that had been requested by many of the overseas wholesalers from Air Rarotonga.
As a company, Island Hopper tries to invest in its staff and those who strive to achieve, generally do so – these are examples of such staff that we have here.
We have now established a profile as one of the leading inbound operations in the South Pacific.
